Chai tea is traditionally made using "black" (or builder's) tea which is not ideal for children as it contains caffeine which is a stimulant. We have created this recipe as a delicious alternative, and it is perfect as a winter warmer during the colder months. The spices are brilliant for the digestive system and it would also work well as a lovely sleep-inducing bedtime drink.
Makes 2 cups
250ml almond milk (or coconut milk)
1/4 tsp cinnamon
2 slices of fresh ginger
2 cardamom pods, lightly smashed
1-2 tbsp agave syrup
Place your coconut or almond milk into a saucepan and gently heat.
Next add your slices of ginger, cinnamon and lightly smashed cardamom (simply crack open so that the seeds and pod can infuse into the milk) and simmer altogether on a low heat. Leave to infuse for a few minutes and then taste. Add the agave to your liking and serve warm or hot.
